 During his first papal visit to the U.S., Pope Benedict XVI reached out to victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests, unprecedented for the Vatican.  He became the first pope to directly and personally apologize to victims for their trauma.  He was the first to acknowledge publicly that the Church had systemically erred in the way that it had transferred offending priests to new parishes, putting more children at risk, instead of reporting offenders to law enforcement.  A new era of accountability seemed to have dawned.

CNN AD SALES AND STARCOM FINALIZE UPFRONT AGREEMENT WITH OUT-OF-HOME GUARANTEE - 23 August 2010

CNN Ad Sales and Marketing, together with Starcom USA, announced today an agreement that guarantees out-of-home (OOH) lift for Starcom clients with schedules running across CNN and HLN.  The agreement, a first of its kind between the two media companies, finalizes upfront negotiations and also provides Starcom measurable results of specific campaigns and deeper insight into consumer behavior and media consumption.  The deal was announced today by Greg D’Alba, executive vice president and chief operating officer, CNN Ad Sales and Marketing, along with Starcom President/Chief Operating Officer Chris Boothe, and underscores an increased recognition in the value of out-of-home audiences.

CNN Digital No. 1 in Online News for 23 Months and Mobile News for 42 Months

In July, CNN Digital held its No. 1 position among ALL Global News and Current Events sites in several key metrics, beating sites such as MSNBC Digital, Yahoo! News and Fox News Digital. Additionally, CNN Digital was No. 1 in video among ALL News and Information Properties and No. 1 in mobile among ALL News and Current Events.  (See below for detailed data and charts)
 
In particular, the site’s in-depth reporting of the oil spill disaster in the Gulf contributed to CNN Digital’s overall traffic success in July. During the month, oil spill-related content on CNN.com accounted for 6.9 million video streams and 15 million page views. Additionally, the site’s users actively participated in covering the disaster through CNN iReport, the network’s user-generated news community. In July, iReporters contributed 736 submissions, and more than 55 were vetted for use on CNN. Since the oil spill began in April, CNN.com’s related coverage has generated a total of 95.8 million page views, 32 million video streams and 5,098 iReport submissions with 345 vetted for use on CNN. CNN's Barbara Starr Receives Exclusive Access to Chronicle "The Journey Home" - 02 August 2010

CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr and producer Brian Vitagliano travelled to the front lines of Afghanistan to document “The Journey Home” of wounded U.S. troops, an account no journalist has ever been able to tell before. Air Mobility Command granted CNN exclusive access to military transport aircraft turned into flying hospitals. The series followed the medical personnel as they evacuated critically wounded troops from Afghanistan to a military hospital in Germany, and then on another military flight from Germany back to Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, DC.
